August Opening Letter
Seemingly, a long and hot summer, but what gorgeous color on lawns and in gardens! So many of you brought in relatives, visitors from out-of-state to visit AN OPEN BOOK and we thank you for your support and the new friendships that were made. Now, we begin preparations for crisp fall weather, kiddos settling into their new school routines, and taking time to find a special book to enjoy.
ALL AMERICAN GIRL ~ coming in September!
Welcome to our new employee, Melissa Frisbie, and her enthusiastic planning for our very own All American Girl Club. Plans are to start our first meeting on September 30th, Sunday, from 1:30 TO 3:00. We will always have a program/craft activity for our participants, as well as a snack. We are inviting any girl in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade to join us. Stop by the store or call: 330-7879 for more details.
FREE TALK AND MEDITATION ~ AUGUST 21ST, TUESDAY, 6:00 PM
Monk Kelsang Rinzin will again join us for a relaxing and nurturing evening.
This evening is free and open to the public. We will begin at 6:00 PM.
AN OPEN BOOK GIVES BACK!
A percentage of our August profits will be given to the Chautauqua organization. Support literacy, support the arts, attend an event under the tents at AIMS and purchase a book from our little, local bookshop!
BOOK STUDY WILL BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER
We are ready and have interested participants for our discussion of THE ENGLISH READER: WHAT EVERY LITERATE PERSON NEEDS TO KNOW. This book is a collection of poems, essays, songs, and speeches created during a four-hundred-year span of English history, arranging them chronologically and introducing each with a brief biography of the author.
Our first three gatherings will be led by John Loftis, professor at UNC. Details? Call or stop by…open to all!
